Benjamin Murphy

Ben graduated from Kali Institute of Massage and Somatic Therapies in Ventura, California, in 2010. He further developed this foundation in Portland at the Oregon School of Massage, the M.E.T.A. (Mindful Experiential Therapeutic Approaches) Institute, and through an apprenticeship with Jay Alvaro, LMT, CPT. More recently he’s honed his practice through a body of work developed by Til Luchau called Advanced Myofascial Techniques.

Nearly ten years into professional practice, Ben brings a therapeutic and trauma-informed approach to his bodywork, incorporating mindfulness based somatic therapy and breathwork when needed. Ben’s work is both deep and integrative. His refined awareness of physical structures, coupled with his holistic approach to the body-mind connection and breath, aids clients in the process of releasing tensions, whether they be physical, emotional, or both.

Most of Ben’s education has been devoted to learning how to bring about therapeutic benefit to the physical body. Having developed this foundation, he has cultivated an approach to the psycho-emotional aspect of healing for those interested in pursuing this work. If your interest in bodywork extends beyond physical maladies, inquire with Ben before or at the time of your session to see whether his skillset might be suitable to what you are seeking.

In addition to doing healing work, Ben is a storyteller, vocalist, and writer. He is also a steward of the School Of Mythopoetics, an online community of those interested in learning what myth might have to teach us about how to live this life meaningfully and fully. Ben does his best to relax often with a good book and/or a cup of tea.

In your session you can expect to experience a variety of techniques and modalities including:

• Deep Tissue

• Swedish

• Advanced Myofascial Techniques

• Cranial-Sacral Therapy

• Integrative Breathwork

• Hakomi Based Mindfulness Techniques

"The two most powerful tools I've discovered for connection with others and with my own being are conscious breathing and deep listening. With each breath, I'm nourishing and balancing myself. I'm helping my awareness catch up and stay connected with my present moment experience. The more curious listening I bring to this moment by moment experience, the more capable I become of receiving what it tells me. This present moment awareness of my own experience, is both a foundation for and portal into deep presence with another person. Over the years these basic tools have become a way I can deliver a particular kind of healing. My hope is that my work also seeds these invaluable tools into the lives of my clients."
