Frequently Asked Questions

• How do I know what kind of massage I want?

You will have an opportunity to discuss what brought you in for a massage with your massage therapist prior to your massage. Whether it be musculoskeletal pain, stress, or you simply want to try a massage we will help guide you through the process. Our list of services may help you define what it is you’re looking for prior to coming in.

• What is a typical massage like?

A great massage will be a deeply relaxing and therapeutic experience. Expect to arrive to the studio, fill out a brief medical history form, and then you and your massage therapist can discuss what you ideally would like from your massage. Some massages are more focused on relieving muscle pain, others on increasing flexibility and joint mobilization, and some address general stress, tension, or anxiety. If you have no agenda that’s fine too, our massage therapists are accustomed to providing as much, or as little guidance as you need.

• What do I wear for my massage?

A professional massage will always be administered in a manner that keeps the client properly draped so you needn’t worry about feeling exposed. Some of our massage styles allow for you to remain fully clothed, but for those that don’t, you may undress to your level of comfort. You will be covered by a sheet and blanket that the massage therapist will skillfully modify to keep you modest, comfortable, and relaxed.

• What are the benefits of massage?

  •  Alleviate low-back pain and improve range of motion.

  •  Assist with shorter, easier labor for expectant mothers.

  •  Ease medication dependence.

  •  Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body's natural defense system.

  •  Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles.

  •  Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts.

  •  Improve the condition of the body's largest organ—the skin.

  •  Increase joint flexibility.

  •  Lessen depression and anxiety.

  •  Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks.

  •  Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation.

  •  Reduce post-surgery adhesions and swelling.

  •  Reduce spasms and cramping.

  •  Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles.

  •  Relieve migraine pain.

• How long should my massage be?

If you don’t receive massage regularly the 90 min. option is ideal if you want a full body massage that is thorough while also addressing any specific issues you may have. If you receive massage regularly and are not concerned with addressing specific issues and/or you don’t mind sacrificing certain areas of the body in order to focus your time on others, then a 60-75 min. massage is a good option.

• Do I tip my Therapist?

Tipping is customary and always appreciated, but not expected. We love what we do and gratefully accept tips as a token of appreciation. However, if adding a tip is a barrier to regular massages, we would always prefer to see you more often. For those who are able, it is customary to tip 15%-25%. If you are not able to tip but still want to show appreciation for your massage therapist, consider referring a friend, leaving us an online review, or pay with cash or check to avoid credit card fees.
